Paradise Valley II

An unforgettable hike

HIKING PARADISE VALLEY II

This hike takes into an area widely popular for its gorges, waterfalls, streams and natural pools, the real definition of “oasis” as Geoff Lawton, a Permaculture expert had described it.

Unfortunately, the widely known paradise valley is crowded and noisy, and has become home to garbage and graffiti. “Paradise Valley II” is located away from all that.

The trail lasts one day, but the experience will stay with you for much longer.

At the beginning, the trail descends a few kilometers down then up the hills before the first few houses are to be seen. We hike along this tiny little village for a short time. The Berber families living in this area depend on agriculture, cattle-breeding, but mostly on harvesting of the Argan tree nuts and apiculture.

We descend a narrow rocky pathway into the gorge where water flows. We hike along the river and stop by the natural pools. We stop at a shady place to rest for a little while and enjoy a well-deserved swim after few hours of walking… This trail area is marked by an overwhelming stillness. It is very beautiful, quiet and peaceful.
We slowly head to the biggest close by village. The road passes through a lot of small terraced fields where fruit trees grow. Our sense of direction can easily be lost trying to explore this scenic area. Most of the farming here is still done by manual labour.

We keep going to reach the village, and to capture a glimpse of the everyday Berber culture. This village is slightly larger. It is a nice walk between stone and adobe houses, and It offers an interesting insight into the Berber tradition and history.
